I think it's the energy he's gonna bring his concept kinda meshes with what Saban has done here. Terminology wise if we can simplify that for everyone on defense, we're going to be way ahead of the curve. The talent is on hand just have to see if they jell.

What a privilege for Wommack.
Yeah, he was one of the new guys who I wasn't quite sure about, just simply due to unfamiliarity.
He's actually really grown on me, maybe the most of any.
Excited to see what he brings to a unit that probably needs to get some swagger back.
The only issue I had with Saban's system was it's high level of difficulty to learn. Some very talented players saw very little action due to struggling to learn the system, or it took some years before they finally had a grip and were able to play. Hopefully our guys will be able to adapt to the new system quickly and play fast much sooner under Wommack.
If anyone is wondering, I'm not knocking Saban's D. Every system has it's difficulties and downsides. I'm just saying, they're all different.

Saban had them in bump and run man with over the top zone safety help
Sort of — his is pattern matching with outside leverage and low vertical leverage (short), which despite fan complaints, actually
is a trail technique.
And you're right, one of the reasons why is because that low vertical leverage forces the receiver into the safety (deep).
Typical counters to his system are motion or stacks/bunches to force off-man coverage, which is why we saw it so much.
If the coverage is executed correctly, it takes an elite QB to beat the safety. If the coverage becomes off-man due to a pre-snap concept, it's more on the corner to get proper leverage. Both positions are therefore critical.
I should have said "bump and run
underneath man with 2 zone over the top"

trail technique for sure, getting between the WR and the passing lane to force a throw over the top, with said safety help
love the mention of motion and bunches to back them off, and that into a combo coverage with matchup zone principles to let the routes dictate who matches up with who and preventing picks and the like

only thing I would disagree with is that the bump underneath would have inside leverage, unless we are not on one narrowly defined wavelength (my thinking being, traditional 4-3 two deep zone with man under underneath - two corners and conceivably three LB's) .... (ETA: as opposed to straight 2 deep zone and 5 under zone - the cover 2 great grandfather)
